We’ve hunted high and low to bring you some of the best fall maternity fashion.  Here are some wardrobe necessities that you’ll need to get you through the season.

Skinny Jeans

No girl can live without a flattering pair of skinny jeans, pregnant or not!  The usual favourite is J Brand and they don’t disappoint this season.  If you are looking for the look of skinny jeans without the price-tag then get yourself into a pair of LA Made denim leggings.

Wrap Dress

There is nothing more versatile than a wrap dress and this seasons don’t disappoint.   Pour Deux’s wrap dress features a floral print while Fragile’s  is a multi-coloured knit print.  Both have 3/4 length sleeves and an adjustable belt that ties in the front.

Long sleeved top

Keep yourself cozy this winter in a long sleeved top.  This one from Olian is stylish enough to wear in the office or for a night out with knot detailing on the front.

Graphic Prints

Bold graphic prints are everywhere and this Fragile mini dress is right on trend.  With long sleeves and a cowl neck, finish the look with a statement belt as shown.

Party Dress

With winter comes Christmas and inevitably a Christmas party or two!  Why not treat yourself to a new dress for the occasion?  Olian’s colour blocked dress features a round neck and long sleeves and comes in two bright colours – orchid purple and bright blue.

5 Ways to Stay Stylish When Pregnant

So you’re pregnant…that’s no reason to go the way of smocked tops and tent dresses.  Follow these simple tips to keep stylish for all 9 months:

1.  Accessorize – Your closet is already filled with amazing accessories that will still work when you are pregnant.  Wear a maternity dress and accessorize with a belt and scarf.  Loose fitting dresses often look better with a leather belt around your hips or below your bust to give more of a shape.

Emma & Willa Square Neck Tunic (worn with a belt)

2.  Choose fitted styles – Don’t try to hide your size by wearing too loose clothes because you’ll get the opposite effect.  Wearing a fitted top with loose trousers or skinny jeans with a roomy top will make you look slimmer and more polished.

3.  Keep your skinny’s – If you love skinny jeans keep wearing them!  All your favourite denim designers also make maternity styles with the same flattering fit.

4.  Add a splash of colour – Pregnant women have a tendency to wear a lot of black.  An injection of colour will brighten your outfit and make it more on-trend for Summer.

5.  Show Some Skin – For all those women who have little to show off normally pregnancy offers you a prime opportunity to flaunt your new cleavage.

Packing A Hospital Bag

A properly packed hospital bag will make your labour and hospital stay more comfortable.  If you are having a c-section then you know your delivery date in advance.  If you are planning a natural birth you should have your hospital bag packed at 35 weeks.  Here’s my list for a private hospital stay:

Nursing PJ’s or Nightie – during labour and delivery you will wear a standard hospital gown but during your stay you will likely be receiving guests so you’ll need something that is nice enough but comfortable and enables you to nurse easily.  Nursing PJ’s by Olian Maternity include bottoms, nursing top, robe and matching baby onesie.

Comfortable Maternity/Nursing Clothes – if you don’t want to wear sleepwear then a comfortable maternity outfit will work.  LA Made’s Noah Pants are loose fitting cotton/lycra trousers with a foldover waist which are perfect if you’ve had a c-section.  Everly Grey’s Lizzie Nursing Top is made of comfortable fabric and is available in green or navy.  Save the Glamourmom Nursing Tanks for after you arrive home and have established a good breast feeding routine.

Milk Producing Tea – I have always spent the beginning days worrying about my milk coming in so I’ve sipped More Milk Please Sippin’ Tea from the Spoiled Mama.  It’s 100% organic and tastes yummy.

Nipple Balm – this is an absolute must!  There are some organic ones available like Earth Mama Angel Baby or you could go with the old favorite Lansinoh but I find it too sticky.

Tummy Butter or Oil – you should continue massaging oil and cream into your tummy for a month after birth to ensure you don’t get stretch marks.  The Spoiled Mama Tummy Butter and Bump Gloss are my favorites because they are organic and lightly fragranced with essential oil.

Socks & Sweaters – hospitals tend to keep the temperature quite low so I have always needed socks and a sweater even in the height of Hong Kong’s summer.  A cardi or wrap is more suitable than a pullover.

Lip Balm

Evian Spray – you might like a refreshing spray during labour.

Mobile Phone and charger – I spent a lot of time during my hospital stay texting with friends.

Magazines, DVD’s, IPad – anything to help you pass the time and relax.  I had a portable DVD player that was a lifesaver.  Don’t forget chargers.

Hairbands

Digital Camera with charger

Outfit to go home in – you’ll still be wearing your maternity clothes as it will take time for your tummy to go down.

Nursing bras – 2 should be enough.

Nursing pads

Toiletries – your stay will last anywhere from 3-5 days and it’s always nice to be using your own products rather than those provided by the hospital.

Not-so-nice undies – Don’t bother bringing your favorite pair because they will be ruined.  Think cotton, black and comfortable.

Eye masks & ear plugs – If you don’t have a private room you might be dealing with a noisy neighbour.

It’s not necessary to pack anything for baby as it’s usually all provided by the hospital but it is best to call in advance to confirm.  Just remember to arrange an infant car seat for the journey home.

Maternity Trends for Spring & Summer 2012

The scorching Summer months are here and we’ve got you covered with our Spring/Summer Collection for 2012.  Here are our top picks from the latest fashion trends to keep you looking and feeling cool this Summer.

Nautical

The Nautical trend made a key appearance this season because it’s crisp and classy.  Choose from horizontal stripes in black, navy or red but keep in mind only 1 item from your outfit should be striped as this trend can be easily overdone.  Olian’s Off-Shoulder Striped Top is a loose style that hugs your bump making it flattering without being too tight.  And the Striped Dress features a solid black tank top and horizontal black and white striped flowing skirt with an adjustable belt.

Prints

Summer is an excuse to play with prints and this season is no exception. Be daring and stand out in Fragile’s Knotty Dress. This one-of-a-kind navy, black and cream dress accentuates all your curves and ties at the front.  Another winner from Fragile is the Double V Dress in vintage inspired blue, red and white diamond pattern print with 3/4 length sleeves and an adjustable tie belt.

Summer Brights

Summer wouldn’t be summer without bright, fun colours and this year is no exception.  LA Made’s Maxi Dress is made of thin, breathable cotton making it perfect for HK’s hot and humid climate.  Everly Grey’s Uma Wrap Dress in bright royal blue with flutter sleeves is perfect for the office or a night out.

Colour Blocking

Colour blocking seems to be the trend of the moment and we are loving the Everly Grey Ellis Tri-Colour Maxi.  The combination of navy, white and bright grass green is fresh and summery.  If you are more keen on pink, Olian’s Two-tone Dress (coming soon) with a grey tank top, black waist and bright pink loose fitting skirt.

Get Shorty

Nothing says summer like a pair of shorts. Mums-to-be shouldn’t shy away from shorts as a chic summer option. Choose from Short or Bermuda style shorts and pair with a top that hits at the hip for the most flattering look.  Jules & Jim’s Cargo Shorts are cuffed and have patch pockets on the front and an adjustable belt making them suitable for all stages of pregnancy.  Everly Grey’s Miren Shorts are a bit longer and feature fold-over back pockets with buttons.

Maternity Wardrobe Guide – The Basics

Anyone who has been pregnant knows that dressing yourself during pregnancy can be a challenge!  I often get women in the boutique looking for advice on which wardrobe pieces they’ll need to get them through their pregnancy so I’ve compiled a list broken down into:  The Basics, The Must-haves & The Investment Pieces.  Today, The Basics:

These are items that you will wear the most during your pregnancy.  There’s no bells-and-whistles here…nothing fancy at all but they will be staples and they won’t break the bank.

1.  A versatile cami – Perfect for layering which is key in pregnancy and the cooler season.  Look for comfortable natural fabrics like cotton and bamboo.  The most versatile styles are form fitting.

LA Made Layering Cami

2.  Leggings – You’ll get a lot of wear out of a pair of black leggings.  They can be worn with everything from tunics to dresses and you will live in them for the last month of pregnancy.  Get 3/4 length for Spring and full length for Fall.

LA Made Leggings

3.  Comfy Lounge Trousers – Wide leg loose fit trousers made of natural fabric.  You’ll be wearing these around the house and to yoga class.

LA Made's Noah Trouser

4.  Layering cardi – Autumn is here so you’ll likely need a little bit of warmth.  A layering cardi is the perfect piece to provide warmth and you can still remove it easily when you get too hot.

LA Made's Striped Cardi

5.  Nursing Bra – No need to buy maternity bras, just jump straight into nursing bras so you can wear them after the baby is born.  They are made from soft, comfortable fabric and they don’t have any underwire.  Lots of women wear them to bed to provide a bit of support and comfort.

Belabumbum's Camille Bra

6.  The Everyday T-shirt – Again a layering piece.  Maternity t-shirts are longer than non-maternity t-shirts so don’t make the mistake of trying to make due with your non-maternity ones or your belly will show.  You can choose a very plain style or something with a bit of detail.

LA Made's Double V Tee

As you’ll notice I’ve featured a number of items made by LA Made  because they are the experts in casual maternity fashion.  You can find similar pieces by different brands however I’ve handpicked LA Made because of their high quality, comfortable fabrics and on-trend styles.

I believe that just because you are expecting doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style.  Here are my maternity wardrobe necessities that will get you through your 9 months in style.

Habitual "Knocked Up" Jeans

1.  The Habitual “Knocked Up” jean has been a favorite of mine since my first pregnancy.  They sit under your belly so they don’t look like traditional maternity jeans.  Perfect for day and night, I’m convinced these jeans have the ability to make your bum appear smaller.  Who doesn’t love that?!

LA Made Shirred V-Neck

2.  The perfect t-shirt for lazy days.  Designed and made in LA, LA Made are the experts in relaxed maternity fashion made from natural fabrics like cotton and bamboo.  Great price point too!

Tbags Pleated Front Dress

3.  I’m a sucker for anything designed by Tbags and this little number has been getting a lot of wear lately.  The perfect day dress that can be worn with black leggings or on it’s own when it really gets hot.

Stephanie Schell Multi Way Tunic

4.  Stephanie Schell’s Multi Way Tunic is perfect for nights out.  It can be worn in 8 different ways so you’ll never get bored of it.  I personally like the one-shoulder option as shown here.

How to wear this season’s maternity frocks with style you ask?  Ensure your accessories compliment the outfit and the occasion.

Stephanie Schell Keyhole 2-Way Dress

This Stephanie Schell Keyhole 2-Way dress is a statement “event piece” so it’s important to ensure your accessories are simple and elegant. For a glamorous night out on the town try a thin gold bangle and a pair of black Louboutin’s (if your balance is still there).

F.E.M by Tbags Maxi Dress

This season there is a trend towards over-sized accessories and these lend themselves well to the maxi dress.  Try an over-sized bangle or two and a pair of T-bar sandals for a relaxed summer feel.

Jules & Jim Wrap Belt w/ LA Made Emmy Dress

A statement belt dresses up any outfit.  This simple LA Made day dress transforms into a stylish evening frock with this Jules & Jim Wrap Belt.  Throw on some strappy heels to complete the look.
