For my first baby shower I made a long list of practical items that every mum-to-be needs…baby bath, swaddles, car seat…yawn.  For my second baby I didn’t make a list and as a result I received some of the cutest things for baby ever (and a some amazing gifts for myself too!).  These fortune cookie booties are to die for and I can’t wait for the next baby shower invite I receive so I can gift these little gems.    Handmade out of fleece, they come with two fortunes; choose from a list or create your own.  They even come packaged in a take-away box!  International shipping is available (yay!)

I read recently that at home pregnancy tests are among the top 3 pregnancy & baby related keepsakes for women.  Personally, I wouldn’t want to keep something that I had peed on for longer than the 3 minutes it takes for it to do its job.  To each their own I suppose.  More up my ally are these sweet custom fingerprint paper cuttings handmade by Lori Danelle.  You just send her your child’s fingerprint and she goes to work with her x-acto knife.  A number of different options regarding text, colour and size are available and she delivers overseas (yay!).  Visit Etsy to order.

Your Hip Little Bubba

I recently returned to Hong Kong after a much needed break to find mum’s abuzz with the recent launch of the Hip Little Bubba online store.  Owner Nicole Darragh has searched the globe for the best brands of baby clothes, shoes, accessories, and everything else you need to keep your bubba stylish.  I can finally find the brands that I drool over when I’m on my buying trips in LA.  Chloe and I are big fans of the Huggalug leg warmers because they keep baby’s legs warm without making diaper changing a pain.

And for baby #2, the very sweet Aden + Anais swaddles are at the top of my new purchase list.  So much more stylish than the standard Growbag swaddles, Aden + Anais swaddles are made from lightweight muslin which is perfect for Hong Kong’s hot climate.  And when baby grows out of the swaddling stage they are perfect for draping over prams when baby is napping.

I am in Canada now and came across these adorable diapers and this equally adorable ad. They are limited edition from Huggies. I am somewhat sad that Chloe is potty training now so has little use for these but I might pickup a box for baby #2. Sadly there is no indication that they will be sold in Hong Kong.

The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD

I don’t know about you but I love to sleep.  When my little one was having trouble sleeping in her first few weeks of life I couldn’t understand why or how to deal with it.  Enter the “Happiest Baby on the Block” DVD by Dr. Harvey Karp.  What a lifesaver…for me and my daughter!  Dr. Karp explains that babies are born 3 months too early which is the cause of a host of newborn problems such as colic, anxiety and sleep problems.  He suggests that parents should focus on keeping their baby snug and happy in a womb-like environment during this period.   The 5 S’s are the quickest and most effective way to create that environment:  swaddling, side/stomach holding in parents’ arms, shushing, swinging and sucking.  As I read the DVD cover I was a skeptic but as I watched Dr. Karp in action I was sold.  Get the DVD and see for yourself.  Your little one will thank you.
